Water filters come in all shapes, sizes, and cost. A water filter can be as simple as a pitcher that you put in your fridge, or as complicated as a system that you install under your sink, such as a reverse osmosis filter.
While a pitcher filter can be cheap and easy to use, it will not remove the same amount of contaminants as a reverse osmosis filter. Also, in the long run, a reverse osmosis filter is cheaper than a pitcher filter. Read on for our APEC ROES-50 Review…

How Does Reverse Osmosis Work
Before we get into our APEC 5-Stage review, let’s discuss the science behind it. A reverse osmosis filter pushes water through a thin membrane that removes contaminants that are larger than .001 microns. The system uses one or more filters before the reverse osmosis filter to remove contaminants, including chlorine, and one or more filters after, to remove any remaining trace contaminants. While a reverse osmosis filtration system is not perfect, it does get rid of most of the contaminants in water; unlike a pitcher, which only removes some of the contaminants.
Presenting: The APEC Reverse Osmosis Filter System
The APEC ROES-50 is a 5 stage water filtration system that you install under your sink. It removes 99% of contaminants, including:
- Heavy Metals
- And 1000+ more contaminants
The APEC system is easy to install, and the filters only need to be replaced every three to six months, depending on usage. The water is better tasting and better for the environment than bottled water. It eliminates the need for plastic bottles that not only change the taste of the water but produce waste as well.
The Advanced Purification Engineering Corp, or APEC, is a water filtration company from southern California with 17 years of reverse osmosis experience. All water filters and parts are manufactured in the US at their facility. Each filter is Water Quality Association certified, and comes with a one-year satisfaction guarantee. APEC also has a rigorous quality control process, inspecting each individual part of each filter.
APEC 5-Stage Filter Design
The filter system is constructed from high-quality components. It includes the 5 stage filter, a holding tank for filtered water, a lead-free chrome faucet that you mount to the top of your sink, and NSF and FDA certified food grade tubing. The fittings are designed to connect easily, with no extra clips or steps to seal leaks. With a smart and automatic design, the filter system shuts itself off when the tank is full, keeping waste to a minimum.
APEC 5-Stage Filter
The APEC ROES-50 is a reverse osmosis system that has a five-stage filter that removes 99% of contaminants from water. It has three filters before the reverse osmosis filter, and one filter after the reverse osmosis filter.
- Stage One is a 5 micron 10-inch filter that removes sediments, including dust, particles, and rust.
- Stage Two and Three are both carbon block, 10 microns 10-inch filters that get rid of chlorine as well as other chemicals and contaminants.
- Stage Four is the reverse osmosis filter; a TFC (Thin Film Composite) membrane that removes many of the remaining contaminants.
- Stage Five is a coconut shell refining 10-inch carbon filter. This final filter is similar to the filter found in many pitcher filters and removes anything that the previous filters might have missed.
The reason a reverse osmosis filter is more effective than a pitcher filter is that each filter before the final filter is considerably better. The fifth and final filter is similar to the filter found in a pitcher filter, however, it is larger, making it even more effective.
The reverse osmosis membrane used in this filter can be harmed by chlorine. That is why the second and third filters remove all of the chlorine in the water.
APEC 5-Stage Filter Installation
The APEC ROES-50 installs underneath your sink. Depending on your experience with plumbing and other household tasks, this may seem daunting, but it is something that can be done without having to call your local plumber. Not only are there multiple videos available to help with installation, but the filter also comes with detailed instructions that take you step by step through the installation procedure.
The filter’s quick connect fittings don’t involve any extra lock clips or steps to seal leaks. This makes it easy to screw the filter right onto the pipes under your sink. One thing to note is that you are going to need to drill a ½ inch hole to mount the included faucet on top of your sink.
Our APEC ROES-50 Review
Filtered water is cheaper than bottled water. Bottled water can run anywhere from $1 to $2 for 20 ounces. The cost for water from a pitcher filter is around 50 cents per gallon. Water from the APEC reverse osmosis filter is only two cents per gallon.
Not only is a reverse osmosis filter cheaper, it is also more convenient. Instead of having to purchase bottled water, or constantly fill a pitcher, with a reverse osmosis filter all you have to do is go to the sink and fill up.
The APEC 5-Stage Filter also filters out most of the contaminants in your water; quite a bit more than a pitcher filter. The one disadvantage is that carbon filters provided with the product don’t necessarily remove chloramine and some other contaminants that are becoming more common in water. A special filter can be purchased to specifically target these additional contaminants. This filter should be installed after the first carbon filter, and before the reverse osmosis filter, and lasts up to 1500 gallons.
The APEC 5-Stage Water filter is a reverse osmosis filter that is easy to install and gives you gallons of water for pennies per gallon. The initial investment may be steep, but the cost and improved water quality are worth the investment. If you are concerned about your health, then getting rid of as many contaminants as you can is the best possible thing you can do for your health.
If you are looking for the cleanest, freshest tasting water you can find, getting a reverse osmosis is the best way to go. The APEC ROES-50 5-Stage Reverse Osmosis Filter is one of the best. If you are looking for even cleaner and healthier water, look at the APEC ROES-75 6-Stage Reverse Osmosis Filter. This filter adds a sixth stage that adds calcium and other nutrients into the water after the water has been filtered. Both are excellent filters, and you can’t go wrong with either one.
